Pulicat is a small seashore township that offers a revitalizing and exciting experience of expedition. This enthralling place situated on the barricade island of Sriharikota that serves as a divider of the Pulicat Lake from Bay of Bengal. This well known place is located at a distance of about 60 kilometers from Chennai and is at a distance of about 3 kilometers from Elavur.

The town is esteemed as the second leading salt lagoon in India. It covers a total area of around 720 sq km of which 84 per cent comes in Andhra Pradesh and 16 per cent in Tamil Nadu. The Pulicat lake is sprawled over an area of 60 kilometers.

Pulicat Lake Bird Sanctuary is a famous 481 KM located in Nellore, Chittoor districts of Andhra Pradesh and Protected area in Thiruvallur District of Tamil Nadu state near Elavur in South India.

The tourism department organizes a flamingo festival in mid-December or in early January every year. The festival makes this place a haven for bird watching, and is loaded with captivating and magnificent views allure visitors from all over.

Though the climate is tropical, the town could be visited any time of the year except the months of extreme summers and heavy monsoons. Natural beauty,exotic birdlife,heritage buildings and a rich cultural history make Pulicat an absolute favorite with backpackers and history lovers alike.
