Krishnagiri District

Krishnagiri District, the ancient Gateway of Tamil Nadu and famed for its Mangoes is a rapidly growing town and a place that experiences a long monsoon.

It is a region with prehistoric importance and a part of the ancient Kongu Nadu and Chera country. Krishnagiri Fort becomes the first and forth most defensive place. The majestic fortress built on Krishnagiri hill by the Vijaya Nagar Emperors, stands as testimony still now.

Krishnagiri Reservoir Project Dam also known as Krishnagiri Dam constructed in 1958, Thally Krishnagiri famed as Little England, Kelevarapalli Reservoir Project construction completed in 1995, Government Museum, Rajaji Memorial and Rayakottah – a hill fort are places to visit in Krishnagiri.

A mint was established at Krishnagiri in 1794 AD. Gold, silver and copper coins were forged here.

The “Mango of Krishnagiri”, Dr. C. Rajagopalachari, the first Governor General of independent India, leader of the Congress Party, and Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu hailed from here.

Krishnagiri Town is urbanized and the presences of big choices of eateries like Creme & Donuts, McDonalds. Traditional sweet Arcot Makkan Peda is something one should taste before leaving the town

Boat club and Park at the outskirts are good places to visit. The boat house is situated 8 km from the central bus stand which also houses a children’s park.

The nearest Railway Station from Krishnagiri is located at Hosur, 45 Kms from the city. The second nearest railhead is Jolarpet Railway Station
