Covelong aka Kovalam, a fishing village in Chennai on the East Coast Road en route to Mahabalipuram. It was a port town developed by Saadat Ali, Nawab of Carnatic. This port town was taken over by the French in 1746, and it was destroyed by the British in 1752.
The Dutch built a fort here during the colonial times, today known as the Taj Fisherman’s Cove, a private luxury beach resort. An ancient Catholic church on the beach is another attraction. One can visible a Dharga and a temple nearby the beach. Along with the beach, the fisherman village here, draws many tourists
This beach is one of the few places in the East Coast where wind surfing is available and there is a surf school with surfing professionals training people on surfing.
