The western Ghats have always been a place of tourist attraction for millions of nature lovers, ChinnaKallar is one such spot. It is situated in Valparai Taluk, Coimbatore District of Tamil Nadu State. There are other locations adjoining to ChinnaKallar such as Sholayar dam, Upper Nirar Dam etc which is closer by and are considered to be places of tourist attraction.
Chinnakallar is geographically an important place. It is about 26km east of Valparai. It is known as Cherrapunji of Tamil Nadu. It is the second place in receiving maximum rainfall next to Cherrapunji. The hanging bridge is built across the falls is full of enchantment and thrill. This area always found wet and misty.
Chinna kallar is considered to be one of the wettest places in India at part with Mawsymram, Cherrapunji and Agumbe. The waterfalls in this area can be reached by an adventurous trek upon a hanging bridge, a legacy of the British.
Chinnakallar is full of greenish dense forest with tall majestic trees which gives a pleasant nature. It has the falls which sounds like a roaring lion. Leeches are found in abundant here at Chinnakallar. The falls is open for visitors until four in the evening. One needs to take an entry ticket to reach the falls.
A small dam followed shortly by a beautiful roaring waterfall in the dense jungles of Anamalai ranges Chinnakallar is a must visit when in Valparai. Wild animals like the tiger, leopard and elephants frequent this place.
Chinnakallar is best visited after the rains between November to May. A private vehicle is what would take you to this place. There aren’t any shops around this place but a tiny hamlet in route is where you can find some food.
