The chilled hilly district of Kerala, a favourite tourist destination and pride of Kerala, now abodes the South India’s first high altitude table top Cricket Stadium.
Krishnagiri Cricket Stadium – The Table Top Stadium
A table top stadium of its kind to be introduced for the first time in South India and second in the country apart from Himachal Pradesh’s Dharmashala Stadium.
Krishnagiri’s carpet ground is the first ever cricket stadium of Kerala Cricket Academy that is purely surrounded by grassy area and green plantations.
It was opened at Krishnagiri near Meenangadi in Wayanad district of Kerala state. It is situated in the north east of the Kerala state and by the side of national high way NH 766.
The main attraction of the stadium features a pitch of international quality and spectator’s gallery in the form of a sloped lawn where people can sit and watch the match, as it can be compared to cricket grounds in South Africa and Australia.
The scientific construction of drainage system enables to resume the play soon after twenty minutes of rainfall. The stadium has a capacity of around 20,000 audiences. It also has state-of-the-art player’s rooms and dining area. According to authorities this cricket stadium will become the main coaching centre for cricket in the state.
The land for stadium was bought in the year 2006 and the foundation stone was laid in the year 2009 by former India cricketers Robin Singh and Sunil Joshi and in the year 2013 it was commissioned by Governor Nikhil Kumar.
Wayanad being a major eco friendly hill station tourist place in the State of Kerala and very soon Krishnagiri Stadium will become a well-known and attractive eco friendly tourist destination in Wayanad.
Kerala Cricket Association is planning to conduct international cricket matches in the future and currently Renji Cricket matches will be held in the upcoming years.
