It is the tallest peak in Wayanad and located in the southern parts of the district which is 2,100 meters above the sea level. This beautiful and very serene peak is a wanderer’s paradise.
Chembra Peak – Ideal Trekking Area
Chembra Peak is visible from all parts of the Wayanad District of Kerala, as it is the highest peak in the district. Also once you reach the top, the whole of Wayanad, Kozhikode, Malappuram and Nilgiri districts can be seen. It adjoins Nilgiri Hills of Tamil Nadu and Vellarimala of Kerala. The peak is accessible by walk from the Meppadi Town.
The major tourist attraction of Chembra Peak is that there is a heart shaped lake known as Hridaya Thadakam literally mean Heart Lake, which is believed to be always thriving, on the way to top of the peak. With three hours of time one can reach the peak point.
Chembra Peak is also apt for those who admires natural beauty and who loves adventure trip. It is also ideal area for trekking, Forest Department Office at Meppadi do permits for one or two days solo or group wildlife treks accompanied by a guide provided by District Tourism Promotional Council and also trekking equipments can be hired; but overnight camping will not be allowed here.
The trekking charges for a group of 10 members are Rs 500 and for international tourists the amount is Rs 1000.
Except monsoon seasons, Chembra Peak can be visited at any point of time prior to permission. For sure the natural beauty here rejuvenates and refreshes each mind.
