Best time to visit Kerala

Each  season in Kerala provides its own unique experiences to  the travelers. You should first think about your expectations and know  what Kerala  can offer in each season before making a call.

Today  Kerala has become an  all year destination for international as well as  domestic travelers due  to its moderate climate round the year. With  Arabian Sea on one border  and Western Ghats on the other, Kerala enjoys  a humid equatorial tropic  climate (Mean daily temperatures range from  19.8 °C (67 °F) to 36.7 °C  (98 °F)).

Peak Season
The   Peak Season in Kerala Tourism is from October-February.

Pros
-Majority of international travelers visit Kerala in this window.
-In this season,   temperature will be moderate and rains will be less frequent which   provides a pleasant climate for sightseeing and roaming around.
-Most of   the tourist places will be open and accessible to travelers
Perfect time to enjoy the sunny beaches of Kerala
Prefect for sightseeing/trekking/travel intensive Holidays

Cons
-Like all other tourist destinations in Kerala also  accommodation/Houseboats charges  will be around 20-40 % higher rates than the normal Tariff  from Dec 15 to Jan 15 (High Peak Season Special rates )
So  for more better value for money plan your holidays in October-February  season but  outside Dec 15 to Jan 15  window (unless you are planning to  spend your New year celebrations in Kerala)

Due to Northeast Monsoon (“Thulavarsham”)  october also might be witnessing some rainfall  so if you want to  completly skip rain then plan from late November onwards

Summer

March   to May will be season of hot summer in Kerala with temperature rising   past 35 degree Celsius occasionally. Hill Stations such as Munnar and Wayanad will be the favorite spots during this season.

Pros
-These sunny days will be providing   best views in all the viewpoints and is a delight to every  photographer out there to capture some of the most beautiful frames.
–  Extended intense Trekking holidays to thick forest (where trekking is  closed or risky in other seasons) will be easier and viable in Summer.

Cons
-Ensure that you are upgrading to  A/C transportation/accommodation in this season.

Monsoons (June-September)  (The Southwest Monsoon – “Edavappathi” ) Kerala will be in its greenest best and   develops  its on romantic aroma .Nature gains a unique charm in  monsoons  helping to relax and unwind yourself. Besides most of the  tourist  places will be less crowded which will provide better  experiences to the  travelers.

Pros

Waterfalls will be in its  best during  monsoons and numerous  small waterfalls will be created in and around  after a heavy rain. If  you are planning for a laid back relaxed holiday  with less sightseeing  and more experiences then Monsoons are the best  time to visit Kerala.  These days Honeymooners are preferring Kerala  more and more during the  monsoons but again it totally depends on what  you expect from your  vacation.

-According   to Ayurveda, Monsoon is the best season for rejuvenation therapies.   During the Monsoon season, the atmosphere remains dust-free and cool,   opening the pores of the body to the maximum, making it most receptive   to herbal oils and therapy. If you are planning for any Ayurvedic   rejuvenation/treatments then monsoons will be an ideal time to visit   Kerala.

Discounts and off season rates Kerala Tourism offers at this time.
Most  of the top  Hotels/Resorts/Homestays/TreeHouses/FarmStays/PlantationStays will be  offering  good discounts from their regular Tariff (off-season rates)   and you will be able to get  better class accommodation options  in   monsoons comparing to the peak season for the same cost. This makes   monsoon tourism much better value for the money. Due to all these   factors Monsoon tourism is gaining momentum in Kerala.

Sometimes  monsoons might be delayed and so it will be safer to plan for late  june  or July if you want to enjoy the Monsoon rains in Kerala

Cons
Frequent rains and rough sea might spoil your Beach Holiday
plans.Moonsoon are not a great time to visit Kerala Beaches
(though you can visit beaches between the rains)
– In case of heavy rains some of the waterfalls might be closed(or may have
restricted entry ) due to dangerous water currents
