Kerala, as the tag line says God’s own country is named as one of the ten paradises of the world by National Geographic Traveller. Beyond the global super brand of tourism, places in Kerala itself demonstrate the finger prints of God. Yes, it is the own country of God which is blessed with a calm climate-an extensive shoreline with tranquil beaches-soothing stretches of emerald backwaters- green hill stations and bizarre wildlife – refreshing waterfalls- extensive plantations, paddy fields and coconut grooves makes it non-touristy venue forever.

Exploring Non-Touristy places in Kerala

The tourists around the globe has explored South Kerala and made it a favourite tourist destination in Asia. North Kerala is still a real unexplored paradise in Kerala and places in North Kerala is said to be non-touristic spot. It is rich with beautiful virgin beaches, pristine backwaters, uncharted hill stations, wild life sanctuaries etc.

  • Valiyaparamba Backwaters:

It is the most attractive backwater stretch in Kerala. Nourished by four rivers and spotted with several little islands, it is fast turning into a much preferred backwater resort that offers enthralling boat cruises. A vicinity, is a well-known fishing centre and is just an hour’s drive from Bekel.

  • Nileshwar Backwaters:

The backwaters are not extensive, but they are still new and charming, the boat cruise through the backwaters of Nileshwar is a typical Kerala style experience.

  • Meenkunnu Beach:

It is located in Azhikode village, Kannur. The name Meenkunnu is derived from the combination of two Malayalam words literally means fish and small hill. A rarely crowded beach is a paradise of tourists with golden sand, coconut trees and surf.

  • Thottada Beach:

Thottada, a scenic village is blessed with a beautiful beach in Kannur. It is an ideal secluded place for sunbath and cool swim. Presence of beach house and guest house which offers accommodation is an added advantage of this beach.

  • Kizhunna Ezhara Beach:

The twin beaches of Kizhunna and Ezhara lie side by side. Red cliffs and black rocks have teamed up to rim the trimmings of beach crescents. It’s an inspiring beach strip where crimson sands meet gentle waves. Shallow calm bay is ever tempting for swim and bath.

Quiet and Quite Kappil beach of Kasargod proves idyllic to the poetic and prosaic minds. The Kodi Cliff nearby, presents a panoramic view of the Arabian Sea.

  • Paithalmala:

It is a hill station in Kannur, nestled in the Kerala Karnataka border near to Kodagu forests. It is the highest geographic peak in Kannur located near Pottenplave village. It’s an apt spot for the nature enthusiasts, photographers and trekkers.

  • Ranipuram:

A marvellous hill station located within Kasargod, it is famous for its trekking trails and diverse vegetation including evergreen shoal woods, monsoon forests and grasslands. Ranipuram is also known as the Ooty of Kerala.

  • Pakshipathalam:

It’s said to be the paradise of an ornithologist. A typical world of bird life and it is best known for the presence of “Edible Nest Swift Light”. Virgin forests, rivulets and steep hills together offer challenging avenues for trekking. Presence of a mythological cave used by Rishis for meditation is a major attraction.

  • Soochippara Falls –[Sentinel Rock Waterfalls]:

A three-tiered waterfall in Vellarimala, Wayanad bounded by Deciduous, Evergreen and Montane forests and offers a cliff face that is ideal for rock climbing. Soochippara is maintained as a plastic free zone.

  • Vellari Mala Falls Kozhikode:

An area blessed with thriving, gently sloping backdrop with several creeks, cascades and splendid waterfalls offers a right dwelling and to dip in the aroma of its boundless fresh air. Dazzling waterfall and velvet green landscapes truly represent it as a trekker’s paradise.

  • Kethan Paara:

Kethan Paara is one of the highest points in Kerala state. The view of the valley is mesmeric. Masthakappara and an elephant’s trunk like slope are clearly visible from Kethan Para

  • Vavul Mala:

The tallest peak in the Western Ghats; a trek through the forests will lead to the peak; an overwhelming silence surrounds the trekker on the peak top.
