Greenwoods Resort Thekkady
Greenwoods Resort Thekkady a delightful luxury nature resort located in Kumily, a little town surrounded by dense forests and spice laden hill slopes. Beneath a lush canopy of tropical trees, there is much to discover and experience here-venerable trees generously endowed with fruit, dazzling shades of green, the melody of birds, dancing shadows.
Set atop a hillock beneath a canopy of tropical trees, it welcomes guests with its abundant charms. The road continues upwards, past embankments laden with pretty flowers to a lush 6 acre natural reserve with a fascinating variety of trees, plants and birds, this is a resort where nature is a constantly recurring theme.
The naturalist here will point out that the resort contains varieties of trees and plants (tagged with their botanical names for nature enthusiasts), host to species of endemic and migratory species of birds.
Cottages painted off white, their gabled roofs the colors of brick are set across the slope of the hillock. A cluster of deluxe cottages are located closest to the entrance, beside stone paved pathways that wind through a lawn towards the reception, a banquet area and beyond to the open air restaurant. The pathways are lit by lamps fashioned out of rustic lanterns, wooden benches are set in quiet corners on the lawn and hammocks strung beneath the dense canopy of branches and leaves overhead and dappled beams of light.
Set beside the reception, on the crest of a slope is the resort’s coffee shop. A quaint attraction in itself, built in the manner of a ‘machan’ on long stilts, with wooden walls and thatch roof. Guests enter crossing a rope bridge. Set high amidst the trees and open on to the surroundings on all sides, nestled in the canopy, the view is breathtaking.
Further on, past the coffee shop, a path leads to a block of rooms on one side and on the other at the bottom of a slope the resort’s bio energy plant and a shed housing a rare breed of endemic cows.
A stairway from the wood panelled lobby furnished with ethnic artefacts and framed prints on the walls leads to the banquet, recreation and exercise areas on the floor above. Below, going past a shop selling spices, a multi cuisine restaurant open to the air on one side, a pretty swimming pool set in a clearing under overarching trees, a path leads to the duplex cottages and the fabulous pool villas.
