Kerala, a state situated on the southwestern end of India, is one of the most popular tourist sites in the country because of its beautiful landscape and calming atmosphere.Kerala has been named one of the top ten paradises by the National Geographic Travel due to its near perfect conditions and its high number of tourists. The atmosphere of Kerala is far different than any other place on earth and, because of this unique experience, it is highly popular. The beauty of Kerala is beyond words.

The long coastline of Kerala is inextricably entwined with the culture, life and traditions of the state. Memories of early seafarers and traders have faded, but boats of various types and styles have survived. Kerala’s beaches, or Kovalam to be more specific, were rediscovered by back-packers and tan-seekers in the sixties. Hordes of hippies followed in the seventies. That started the transformation of the casual fishing village into a busy tourist destination.

    The southernmost beach, the Lighthouse Beach is the one most frequented by tourists and it is the larger of the beaches in that area The main attraction is 35 metre high light house which towers over it atop Kurumkal hillock.

    •  Hawah Beach:

    Eve’s Beach, more commonly known as Hawa Beach, ranks second, in the early day, is a beehive of activities with fishermen setting out for sea. With a high rock promontory and a calm bay of blue waters, this beach paradise creates a unique aquarelle on moonlit nights.

    A large promontory separates this part from the southern side. Samudra Beach doesn’t have tourists thronging there or hectic business. The local fishermen ply their trade on this part. Since then, Kovalam has been the single major attraction for tourists for many years until other places began to be explored in terms of tourism potential. 

    Situated 12 km south of Kovalam, An isolated but spectacular beach, Poovar Beach is situated close to the Neyyar River estuary. A trading port in its early days, it is today an important tourist destination.

    A walkway along the edge of the cliff goes up several kilometres. The headland provides a panoramic view of the beach and sea. This beach is very enjoyable without the disturbance of city life.The laterite cliff walling the beach oozes water that is believed to be salubrious.     A light house, positioned near the beach is a favorite tourist spot for the tourists.The Vijaya Beach Park, though small in area offers entertainment to children.The remnant of 137 year old Sea Bridge at the beach, recalls the good old days of Alappuzha port, which was once the most famous and significant port of Kerala. This Sea Bridge served as the passage to transfer goods from ships. Alappuzha Beach is one of the preferred shooting locations of Kerala. As the Backwaters of Alappuzha, the Alappuzha Beach also has tourist rush from all over India and most of the European countries.

    This eye catching beach is situated near the Bekal Fort of Kasargod district of kerala.  This 300 year old fort is one of the largest and best preserved forts in Kerala. The imposing circular structure of laterite rises 130 ft above sea level and stands on 35 acre headland that runs into the Arabian sea.

Poovar is basically a fishing village and the only way to reach Poovar is through water. Known for its pristine and virginal beauty, Poovar Beach is haunted by those who love solitude. Beach activities and water sports are not developed in this beach because of the fishing population. The estuary there is one among the natural wonders where the Lake, River, Sea and Beach meet the land, and is situated adjacent to the Poovar Island; a rare find in Kerala, the southern state of India. It is enveloped by the most serene backwaters and opening out to the Sea and a dream golden beach.

    An interesting feature of the landscape is the sprawling rock that protrudes into the sea. The temple on the rock is believed to be 800 years old.
  9. Kollam
    Kollam is one of the oldest ports on the Malabar coast. It is the centre of cashew trading and processing. Thirty percent of this town is covered by the renowned Ashtamudi lake. The eight hour boat trip between Kollam and Alappuzha is the longest and most enchanting experience on the backwaters of Kerala.The famous beach of Kollam district is Thangasserry Beach.This seaside village of historic importance has the ruins of an old Portuguese fort and churches built in the 18th century. The Thangasseri lighthouse which is 144 ft high is open to visitors.

    Kappil Beach is Situated in Trivandrum District Of Kerala. A confluence of the sea and the Kappil River, the tongues of backwaters, the extensive estuary, and the magical interplay of land and water all add up to make this an idyllic spot. The small palm-covered islets within the estuary further enhance its charms. The coastal road passing through this area practically holds the sea and the estuary apart for a long stretch, offering delightful views of the waters on either side. There are no tourists, vendors or shops, and absolutely no traffic whatsoever. Lacking all tourist amenities, except for boating, Kappil in fact, seems to be a closely guarded secret.

    Vypin Island was formed after the great floods of 1341. The Island is 25 kilometers long and has an average width of 2 kilometers. Pallipuram Panchayat, in which Cherai Beach is included, is at the northern end of Vypin Island. Cherai and  Munambam are the two parts of Pallipuram Village, which were parts of Kochi and Travancore States prior to the merger of the states. For a land which has a history of less than 700 years since formation, Cherai boasts of a rich cultural heritage with monuments which stand out prominent in India’s history.

    Puthuvype Beach:The beautiful beach of Puthuvype is one of the best hangout location in Kochi, but also the least explored. The walkway at the beach offers a great experience to the visitors. Another attraction at Puthuvype beach is the “cheenavalas” (Chinese fishing nets). They are raised at regular intervals. Guys who are really interested can join them in raising the nets and take the photos together with the fishermen.
    Munambam Beach:Munambam Beach (Muziris Golden Beach). Munambam Beach have been made due to a “Pulimuttu” which was constructed in the area. According to the scientfic report, it is due to this that the flow of the waters had changed, paving way for the formation of a new beach in the area.
    FortKochi Beach:Fortkochi is also home to one of India’s oldest churches – the St. Francis Church. This was a Roman Catholic Church during the Portuguese rule from 1503 to 1663, then a Dutch Reformist Church from 1664 to 1804, and Anglican church from 1804 to 1947. Today it is governed by the Church of South India (CSI). important fact about the church is that Vasco Da Gama, who died in 1524, was buried here before his mortal remains were returned to Portugal 14 years later… Each and every structure, street, door, window and brick in Fortkochi has several stories to tell.
    Chathangad Beach: 
    Chathangad Beach/Chathanad Beach is located Near to Edavanakkad Village in Vypeen Island. Its a new born beach. Because of low crowd its a calm beach side for lovers. 
    Kuzhuppilli Beach: Kuzhuppilli/Kuzhupilly Beach is located in Vypeen island. Kuzhuppilly is a village area.  This is upcoming tourist sport in Kerala. It was identified as a potential tourism spot by the authorities.The village has Freshwater prawn farms and Paddy Fields , The village contains the Pallathamkulangara  Bhagavathi  Temple ,  Sree Balakrishna Swami Temple, St. Augustine’s Church,  Mahadeva Temple, Ayyampilly Mahadeva Temple and Chempoozhi Sree Dharmasastha Temple. It is very important to include that this village is developing in a very fast way. Pulauyavamshodharini sabha Sree Rajalangaramoorthy temple is at Cheruvyppe.
