Margao, the capital of South Goa, popular by the name Madgaon is the second largest city by population in Goa, the smallest Indian state.

Church of Holy Spirit
It’s located in the Old Market Square of the commercial town at Margao. It was built in 1564 and got destroyed in 1571. Later in 1645, it was reconstructed and in 1675 it was consecrated.
For construction, the Indian Baroque architectural style has been followed, with white cover-up. There are towers on either side of the Central Dome. The interiors of the church are highlighted with pipe organ, crystals and stucco. The cross positioned inside the church belongs to the late 17th century and the altars are devoted to Immaculate Conception of Mary, St. Peter and St. Michael.
Interested in local crafts! Then Margao market is apt for your shopping. It’s all about buying local crafts made from bamboo, straw or grass, woodwork, pottery and metal ware etc.
You may also get here cotton sarongs, skirts, drawstring trousers, t-shirts, wide brimmed straw hats and bags, trinkets of shells and beads.
Browse through the bazaar and you may pick up typical Goan memorabilia, antiques, and souvenirs. Your bargaining power can avail you some good deals.
Shri Damodar Temple
It is one of the most fine-looking and eminent architectural structure in Goa which stands on the bank of Kushawati River.
The Kushawati River is considered to be sacred as the Hindus believe it has healing powers that help to get rid of various body ailments.
The deity here is Lord Damodar, an incarnation of lord Shiva. The deity was originally based in a temple where the present Holy Spirit Church is situated in Margao.
Margao Municipal Garden
Margao Garden, a cynosure of all eyes has two parts: the Municipal Garden on the South end, facing the Camara or Municipal Building and His Highness Prince Aga Khan Park on the Northern side, facing the Post Office.
His Highness Prince Aga Khan, who was the head of the Ismailis, gifted this park in the heart of the city to the Goans.
This garden is aptly called the “lungs of the city”. The majestic gate facing the Municpal Building goes well with the ambience of the garden and the facade of the Municipality.
Jorge Barreto Park
It is a famous park located in the centre of Margao. The presence of arched corridor lures you to this park. The other attractions beside the park are the colonial styled red building that was constructed in 1905 and a library.
San Thome Museum: Back in Time
As the name says it takes you back in time to the 18th century, era of Thomas Edison. You can understand the evolution of calculus, recorded music, movies, radio, time, camera, music instruments, crockery, cutlery, work of art by Technical Artist Thomas Antonio and much more. The time of 1hour and 45 minutes spend here is of solid knowledge and quality time.
Need some break that relax you, then go to Zalor Beach, a small beach of white sands, lying just south of Varca beach.
The beach is mostly isolated with just a couple of shacks on the beach. A few low sand dunes and palm trees can also be seen along the shoreline.
One can reach there by private transport or alight at Cavelossim and take a short walk north to the beach.
It is Margao’s highest point, giving commanding view of the busy commercial town of Margao below.
The chapel devoted to Calcada de Nossa Senhora de Piedade or Our Lady of Mercy, is cited here.
The entire area is ideal for a short retreat, with the company of sea breeze and one’s own thoughts.

Jama Masjid Margao
The Jama Masjid is situated at Sanguem in Goa is a well known Muslim religious place of worship in Goa which is known to have been completely renovated in 1959 AD.
The new structure of the Jama Masjid is notable for its elegant simplicity and pleasant size.
The entrance facade of the Jama Masjid has two towers, which are surmounted by pillared kiosks and four minarets and from the centre of these a dome-shaped kiosk rises.
