The Basilica of Bom Jesus, located in Old Goa, the early capital of Portuguese Empire holds the mortal relics of St. Francis Xavier and it is listed as World Heritage Site by UNESCO. This church was India’s first minor basilica and it is a best example for baroque architecture in India.
The floors of this oldest church are of marble inlaid with precious stones. The outstanding features like highly structured gilded altars, portraits of St. Francis Xavier’s life, the Mausoleum and the simple interiors makes this church exotic.
The structuring of the church began in 1594 and it was consecrated in 1605. This monument is a landmark in the history of Christianity.
